A Healthy Lifestyle as Cancer Prevention!

According to the World Health Organization, with more than 3.9 million new cases and 1.9 million deaths each year, cancer represents the second most important cause of death and mortality in Europe. On a global scale, cancer accounted for 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Although more than 40% of cancer deaths can be prevented, cancer accounts for 20% of deaths in the European Region. If the consequences of inappropriate diet, obesity and insufficient physical activity are added, the percentage of cancers due to an unhealthy lifestyle rises to 60%.
Nevertheless, there are many behaviors that can play an important role for the prevention of this disease, that are still not promoted enough among the European population, especially among children and young people.

"The increase in cancer in the European Union is a further 25% by 2035. We have to act now and not in half a year to inform our children and accompany them on the way to a healthier future. Delay is no longer an option here! Therefore, from now on, we will also increasingly tackle projects dedicated to the topic of primary prevention in kindergartens and schools!" Petra Thaller, OAC Founder & President

The OAC slogan TOGETHER OUT OF THE WOODS! is a clear commitment in the overall sense of health, sustainability and environmental responsibility. OAC connects cancer patients, their families, and friends and gives them the tools for a healthy future.
The four OAC pillars in Germany, Europe and beyond are
  • outdoor sports and exercise
  • in a healthy natural environment
  • healthy nutrition, and
  • psychological well-being.
OAC actively supports Europe's Beating Cancer Plan in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and is also an official supporter of the National Decade Against Cancer in Germany since October 4. This award has been given with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Accordingly, the first OAC event LRCKids (Let's Rock Cancer Kids), together with the OAC partner university University of Coimbra and the school group Escola Básica de Vilarinho do Bairro - Agrupamento de Escolas de Anadia, was built on just these four pillars.
Out OAC team created an event concept for schools, which we are implementing in Portugal for the first time with our partner Garmin Health and Fitrockr.

“Outdoor Against Cancer OAC offers cancer survivors a supportive community and hands-on workouts, all with a scientific backbone around cancer research, to give people a chance to truly #beatyesterday.
We couldn't be prouder to support OAC on this admirable mission.” Joern Watzke, Sr. Global Director Garmin Health
